In 1995, Emir Kusturica's movie Underground was released featuring zoo animals on the loose in the bombed city of Belgrade and the public are hiding underground. Terry Gilliam released the film Twelve Monkeys which featured a world hit by a terrible virus forcing the remnants of the human race underground, and the former zoo animals are running around on the surface breeding, made possible by a breakthrough in CGI. The movie Jumanji is also released which features large wild animals running around the streets of the local town called up from a magical game made possible by the same CGI breakthrough
